Yet another split CD, this time with two, to me totally
unknown, artists from Spain. The Spanish scene seems, for some reason, to
be relatively insular, with only a small number of artists gaining some sort
of profile outside their homeland. C-utter, who seem to be a duo, present
seven tracks here that are fairly eccentric and often quite interesting.
Deep synthetic textures dominate, augmented by what sounds like electronic/software
generated feedback, and at times (as on the lengthy 'Siente el Cuchillo'),
crazed vocals that make the excesses of early Sigillum S seem positively sedate.
I can't say that I enjoyed it all, but I have to give full marks for being
so idiosyncratic. Nonetheless, the execution is a bit amateurish and so I
can't completely recommend it either.
Mixturizer don't fare as well. The seemingly random keyboard noodling and
equally haphazard percussion are bad enough, but poor production makes it
worse and the pretentious liner notes push it over the line into comedy. Only
it's not even funny. In conclusion, you'd probably be better off giving this
one a miss.
